Kobe Bryant, apparently, is soon to be a free agent.
Wife of the star of the Lakers in Los Angeles for 10 years, Vanessa, filed for divorce Friday in Orange County, California, a source confirms to people. Vanessa cited irreconcilable differences and is seeking spousal support and shared custody of their two daughters, Natalia Diamante Bryant, 8-Gianna Maria-Onore, 5.
Bryant, 33 and to be ex-esposa, 29, married in April 2001, when Bryant was only 22 and she was 18 years old.
"The couple released a statement to Kevin Frazier of The Insider saying,"the couple said"we ask that in the interest of our children and in the light of the upcoming holiday season, the public respects our privacy during this difficult time".
In 2003, endured a scandal public after Bryant was charged with allegedly raping a 19-year-old Colorado Hotel employee. Finally, charges were withdrawn after the accuser refused to testify. The case settled out of court.
Few days after Bryant was charged, his wife was seen sporting a ring worth 8 carats of diamonds purple on $ 4 million, which many interpreted as a gesture of apology to her.
"I am here before you, angry with myself, disgusted at myself for making the mistake of adultery," Bryant said at a press conference in July of that year. "And I love my wife with all my heart."
